Home Décor Store Finds New Home On South Main Street

When Victoria Yarrow Home Décor opened in the Village Shopping Center at 43 South Main Street two years ago, owner Joan Yarrow quickly realized that she needed more space.

“It took me a long time to find a another location,” she said. “While I looked, my landlord, Steve Rountos, was very accommodating and let me stay on a month-to-month lease.”

On the week of April 11 she opened the doors to her new store at 115 South Main, where she shares the building with The Clock Shop. She has the entire main floor with ample space to showcase vignettes of furniture and accessories; The Clock Shop is now on the lower level with an entrance off the rear parking area.

“I’m thrilled with the new location,” Ms Yarrow said. “It’s light, it’s bright. I think it is a really good setting. I’m able to do displays — room settings.”

The displays showcase upholstered sofas and chairs, antiques, and reproduction furniture and accessories that have a European Country look cultivated by Ms Yarrow during many years in the furniture and design business. Most recently the manager of the Thomasville furniture store on Federal Road in Brookfield, Ms Yarrow was the manager of the Hitchcock store in Wilton for 17 years, and later manager of the company’s flagship store in Riverton.

The shop carries items in a wide range of prices, from accessories priced at less than $10 to antique furniture. Glassware etched with dragonflies is priced at $6.99 each; bell jars, $15, and hors d’oeurve spreaders and forks at $4.

“I’ve tried to hit all price ranges,” Ms Yarrow said. “The key is to keep prices affordable. I have a lot more upholstered pieces, antiques, and imported pieces. I try to find unique things, interesting things.”

Having studied interior design at Fairfield University, she offers complete design services from creating a floor plan to providing the accessories that complete a room. She is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the Connecticut Chapter of Interior Design (CCID).

“I’ve developed a lot of contacts over the years, so I know where to get almost anything that a customer could want,” she said.

She also offers decorator services through collaboration with interior designer Marilla Rodriguez.

Ms Yarrow and her husband, Walter, live in Newtown on Lake Lillinonah in a home they bought nearly ten years ago in a move from Wilton.

Victoria Yarrow is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am to 5:30 pm; Thursday, 10 to 8 pm; Sunday, noon to 3 pm. For more information, contact Ms Yarrow at 270-6230.
