Abbey Lynch has been named Young Adult Librarian and Volunteer Coordinator for the Cyrenius H. Booth Library in Newtown.

In her new position, Ms Lynch will manage the Young Adult & Teen Department, develop and maintain the young adult and teen collections, and create programming for this age group. She will also manage volunteer opportunities throughout the library, including scheduling, training, development, and evaluation.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Abbey join the C.H. Booth team," said Library Director Douglas Lord. "Abbey's experiences and knowledge will make an immediate and positive impact on the youth in Newtown." Mr Lord added, "Abbey is also very approachable. I know the community will welcome her warmly."

A resident of Sandy Hook, Ms Lynch's experience includes work as the Children and Teen Program Assistant at the Brookfield Library. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts: Drama Studies in 2011 from Western Connecticut State University, she worked as a teacher at the YMCA in Bethel, as a drama specialist with youth in Bethel and in Woodbridge, and with archival collections at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam. She has also studied improv comedy at ImprovBoston, The PIT NYC, and Sea Tea Improv.

Ms Lynch has programming experience and much enthusiasm for young adult literature, and will complete her Master's Degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Rhode Island in the winter of 2018.

Always on the hunt for new ideas, Lynch has hosted Escape Rooms, Trivia Nights, and Food Challenges for teens, and says her favorite part of librarianship is connecting kids with their next favorite book.
