Choral Society Preparing Spring Concert

Newtown Choral Society, under the direction of David Jurman and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, will be presenting a program called “A Canadian Spring,” devoted to Canadian music, on Sunday, May 17, at 4 pm, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown.

Canada’s music includes the country’s tradition of folk music, and is embellished by the country’s strong domestic and international contributions to popular music.

The choir will be singing Mr Jurman’s arrangement of “Canadian Pacific,” a song first introduced by the country singer Hank Snow in the 50s. Also on the program will be a modern choral interpretation of Antonin Dvorak’s New World Symphony, Canadian folk songs, and Ian Tyson’s iconic “Four Strong Winds.” Contemporary works by Allister MacGillivray, Susan Crowe and Stan Rogers will also be on the program.

Tickets $9, $7 for students and seniors.

Call 426-3769 for more information.
