Marjorie Evelyn Palmer, 93, of Heritage Village in Southbury, died peacefully May 14 at St Mary's Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 22, 1924, in Winsted, the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Anstett) and Joseph Ringwood. She was the wife of the late Emory Palmer II.

Mrs Palmer was employed as a mental health worker at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown for many years until her retirement. She raised her family in Sandy Hook before moving to Southbury and eventually to Heritage Village.

Her last year was spent at the Watermark at East Hill where she became friends with many staff members and residents. Her family would like to thank the staff for their endless compassion and kindness; it will not soon be forgotten.

Mrs Palmer was a lover of all animals, especially of cats, and she adored her feline friend who will miss her dearly. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to big band music, and watching her favorite show, Law & Order. Trips to the casino to play the slot machines always put a big smile on her face, as well as indulging in anything that satisfied her sweet tooth.

Her sister, Dolores Nast of Winsted; and seven children and their spouses, Emory III and Patricia Palmer of Washington, Timothy and Pamela Palmer of Roxbury, Terry Palmer of Naugatuck, Jody and Donna Palmer of Southbury, Todd and Sara Palmer of New Fairfield, Robin Deming of Southbury, and Dawn Palmer of Waterbury survive her. She was a proud and loving grandmother and great-grandmother to many, and she valued her time spent with each and every one of them. Her son Dennis Palmer, daughters Patricia Whitlock and Claudia Short, and numerous siblings predeceased her.

A memorial service honoring her life will be conducted on Tuesday, May 23, at 11 am, at St Paul Episcopal Church, 294 Main Street South, Woodbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Posh Pets Rescue (care of Linda Vetrano), 340 East 93 Street, New York NY 10128.
