Borough of Newtown residents gathered in the gym of Edmond Town Hall on May 14 to vote on the proposed budget of $250,530 for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

The budget is $610 more than last year’s, though the burgesses have managed some savings for the operation of streetlights this year. Jay Maher, the warden, informed the public that 47 percent of the budget goes to utility costs.

To be able to vote properly on the budget, at least 20 people from the Borough need to be in attendance. There were about 30 residents present for the vote. The budget passed with 32 votes in favor, and two votes in opposition. The mill rate of .66, which is less than last year’s mill rate of .67, also passed, unanimously.
