Both Vehicles Towed

Newtown Police report Martin Mueller, 63, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Subaru Legacy, was traveling eastbound on Borough Lane, and stopped at the stop sign located at the intersection with South Main Street, at 7:01 am April 26. Rachel Williams, 23, of Brookfield, operating a 2008 Subaru Impreza, was traveling straight on South Main Street. Mueller’s vehicle struck Williams’ vehicle.

Williams and a passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Mueller was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Left Scene After Hit Car

Newtown Police report Glynis Sharp, 73, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Volvo CX60, was leaving a parking area at 32 Church Hill Road at 1:08 pm May 2. Sharp reversed around from a do not enter sign to leave the proper way, but struck an unoccupied, parked 2015 Honda CR-V owned by Kelly Goodridge of Newtown.

Sharp was unsure if she struck a vehicle and left the scene. She was later contacted by police and was cooperative.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Hit Railroad Bridge

Newtown Police report Daniel Deleon, 36, of Silverdale, Wash., operating a 2023 International tractor trailer, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 11:06 pm May 3. Upon coming to the railroad bridge, he slowed and attempted to pass underneath the bridge, and the roof of his trailer struck the bridge.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Deleon was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey height requirements.

Collision In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Carol Luf, 81, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Jeep Liberty, was stopped for a stop sign in the parking lot of 6 Queen Street at 3:12 pm May 4. Diane Pimentel, 71, of Bethel, operating a 2022 Nissan Rogue, was traveling westbound in the parking lot. Luf drove forward and the front of his vehicle collided with the right side of Pimentel’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Failure To Obey Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Linda Muir, 85, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, was stopped at a stop sign on Currituck Road waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn onto Main Street at 11:16 am May 6. Leona Rzezniczek, 72, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Kia Forte, was traveling northbound on Main Street approaching the T intersection at Currituck Road. Muir pulled out into the roadway of Main Street in front of Rzezniczek, causing Rzezniczek’s vehicle to strike Muir’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Muir was issued a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Restricted Turn

Newtown Police report Liam McCombe, 18, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Bolt, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 2:33 pm May 6. McCombe was traveling behind a non-contact vehicle that started to make a left turn onto Pecks Lane. McCombe turned to the right to avoid hitting the other vehicle and drove on the shoulder before striking a CT DOT left arrow sign.

No injuries were reported. McCombe’s vehicle was not towed.

McCombe was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Both Vehicles Towed

Newtown Police report Carl Anderson, 62, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Subaru Forrester, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 6:59 am May 7. Henry Cajamarca, 18, of Danbury, operating a 2010 Honda Civic, was traveling southbound on Main Street. Anderson pulled through the stop sign and into the path of Cajamarca, causing Cajamarca’s vehicle to strike Anderson’s.

Cajamarca was injured but not transported. Both vehicles were towed.

Anderson was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Trespass Charge

Newtown Police were called to a residence on Meadow Brook Road for a trespassing complaint at 9:20 pm May 7. Upon arrival, officers investigated and arrested Patricia Jackson, 50, of Newtown, and charged her with third-degree criminal trespass.

Jackson was released on a written promise to appear at Danbury Superior Court on May 14.

Suspended Registration

Newtown Police report Yery Arache-Feblesdeorta, 33, of Danbury, operating a 2014 Kia Forte, was traveling westbound on Hawleyville Road approaching the intersection with Mount Pleasant Road at 7:30 am May 8. Regina Colletes, 58, of Pawling, N.Y., operating a 2021 Honda CRV, was stopped at the red light at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Mount Pleasant Road. Arache-Feblesdeorta did not stop in time and rear-ended Colletes’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Arache-Feblesdeorta was issued a misdemeanor summons for having a suspended registration.

Struck Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Tina Weiner, 68, of Southbury, operating a 2018 BMW 330, was traveling southbound on New Lebbon Road at 1:54 pm May 10. Weiner’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Weiner was treated on-scene for minor injuries but was not transported. Her vehicle was towed.

Weiner was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Hit Stone Wall

Newtown Police report Patrick Cooney, 56, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Acura RDX, was turning from a stop sign on Bradley Lane onto Great Ring Road southbound at 7:14 pm May 10. Samuel Daprile, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Volvo XC60, was traveling northbound on Great Ring Road. Daprile swerved to avoid Cooney’s vehicle and hit a stone wall on the northbound shoulder of Great Ring Road.

No injuries were reported. Daprile’s vehicle was towed.

Cooney was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Operated Motor Vehicle Under Suspension

Newtown Police report Michael Ploughman, 41, of Bridgeport, was arrested at 6:39 pm May 11 and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of May 28 in Danbury Superior Court.

Jetta Backs Into Rogue

Newtown Police report Daniel Leyva, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, was backing northbound out of a parking space in the lot of 266 South Main Street at 8:32 pm May 11. Michael Digiovanni, 62, of Monroe, operating a 2021 Nissan Rogue, was traveling westbound through the parking lot. Leyva backed into the front left tire of Digiovanni’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Hit Pole And Tree

Newtown Police report Jose Cazorla, 18, of Danbury, operating a 2018 Subaru WRX, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road in the area of Thunder Ridge Road at 8:31 pm May 13. While negotiating a curve, Cazorla’s vehicle crossed the center line, and entered the eastbound travel lane before sideswiping the guard rail. The vehicle crossed back over the centerline and exited the roadway right, going over a curb and onto an embankment, striking a telephone pole and its stabilization cables, before striking a tree.

Cazorla was transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected minor injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Cazorla was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

No License

Newtown Police report Rosmeire Dos Santos Lima Costa, 38, of Brookfield, operating a 2009 Ford Fusion, was in the parking lot of Mitchell Gas Station, 26 Hawleyville Road at 4:37 pm May 14. Dos Santos Lima Costa backed into a gas pump, breaking off a pump dispenser spout. The vehicle left the scene and returned home. Dos Santos Lima Costa was contacted at her home but did not speak English. She had no driver’s license but did provide a passport.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Dos Santos Lima Costa was issued an infraction for operating without a license.
