Rounding The Bases - Youth Softball And Baseball Results

U14

designerbodies 21, Woodbury 6 – designerbodies let loose with an 18-hit attack in defeating Woodbury. Jenna Poeltl, Elizabeth Grimes, Allie Jones, Nina Midlik, Ashley Perry, and Morgan D’Avola all had two hits for the winners. Perry, Jones and Midlik also turned in strong pitching performances and Amanda Rowan made a nice catch and assist to throw out a runner.

designerbodies 18, Brookfield 17 – designerbodies scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a one-run victory over Brookfield. Amanda Rowan’s triple tied the game with two outs and she then scored the winning run on a hit by Lydia Post. Annamarie Lewis, Katelyn Dandrea, and Mallorie Dunn paced the winning offensive attack and Rhea Schneider pitched three strong innings. Allie Jones scored three runs with some good baserunning.

Southbury 14, designerbodies 13 – designerbodies rallied from an eight-run deficit to tie Southbury but lost the game when a run scored on a passed ball with two outs in the last inning. Annamarie Lewis, Morgan D’Avola, and Nora Murphy had three hits apiece to lead the offensive attack. Ashley Perry and D’Avola were strong on the mound and D’Avola and Caitlin Dowling made outstanding plays on defense. designerbodies turned a rare 9-3-2 double play in the final inning to kill a Southbury rally. With the winning run on third base right fielder Ashley Perry fielded a hit through the infield and threw out the runner at first, then Caitlin Dowling relayed to home to nail the runner trying to score.

 

U12

JP Maguire 17, Fireballs 5 – Allie Soderholm lead JP Maguire with going 3 for 4 at the plate and play unstoppable defense at shortstop and first base. Nadia El Hag and Julia Frattaroli led Maguire with six innings of great pitching. Kate Butera had a great game behind the plate. For Fireballs, Valentina Pena pitched three strong innings and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Madison Erhardt and Alex De Wolfe each had two hits a piece. Mel Rotante play a great third base, letting nothing get past her.

JP Maguire 16, Dr Beck Lightning 8 – For JP Maguire, Nadia EL Hag pitched a solid three innings. Meghan Logan and Julia Frattaroli led the offense with three hits a piece. Julia Frattaroli played an outstanding game at first base. Maddie Woodard made several great plays at second base while Cailtin Gibney made several defensive plays behind the plate. For the Dr Beck team, Anna Grillo pitched a gutsy three innings and made a couple of big defensive plays in the field. Georgia Contois, Maggie Kase, Courtney Escoda, Jess Oliger, and Claire Miles all hit the ball well. Olivia Avery played tough behind the plate, and Juliana Sansonetti made a great play in right field getting the out at first base.

JP Maguire 13, Fireballs 6 – For JP Maguire, Meghan Logan led the offense going 3 for 4 at the plate while Kate Butera, Allie Soderholm, and Vicky Kokoszka each had hits for Maguire. For Fireballs, Emily Davis had a great day on the mound while making great plays. Aileen Toal had two hits to contribute to the Fireballs. Melanie Rotante was rock solid on defense at third base.

JP Maguire 13, Newtown Pools 11 – For JP Maguire, Savannah Burdette had a smash out to left field to bring in the two winning runs. Kate Butera and Meghan Logan played awesome defense to keep Newtown Pools from scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning. Julia Frattaroli played solid defense at first base. Newtown Pools came up short ending the game with the tying run on base. Hitting the ball well were Mallory Ames, Callie Furphy, Emily Paloian, Cherokee Belval, and Sarah Hull. Defensively, Mallory Ames, Lauren McMahon, and Heather Leone played well.

JP Maguire 17, Carminuccio’s Pizza 8 – For JP Maguire, Leonie Schmitt and Julia Frattaroli led the offense with six hits combined. Nadia El Hag pitched three strong innings and played great defense on the mound. For Carminuccio’s Hanna Godbout pitched very well while Emily Nacewicz, Sydney Hutchison, and Mariah Joy all had hits for Carminuccio’s.

 JP Magurie 7, Brookfield 4 – JP Maguire played an outstanding game against a very talented Brookfield team. Mallory Ames made several amazing plays at shortstop. Alena Ruscoe and Nadia El Hag combined for the win on the mound. Melanie Rotante was 2 for 3 while Caitlin Gibney had a two run single.

Villa Restaurant 12, Dr Beck’s 9 – For the Villa’s Pink Panthers, Alena Ruscoe, and Mareena Mallory pitched well. Offensively, Alena Ruscoe collected two doubles and a single and Mattie Kelly smacked a double. Collecting key singles in the game were Shaina Stamp, Shaina Evanko, Mareena Mallory, and Julia LeBlanc. Defensively, Mareena Mallory made a nice catch in center field to rob Dr Beck’s player Courtney Escoda of an extra base hit. Lillia McEnaney, Sarah Hull, and Anna Grillo combined for six big hits for the Dr Beck team. Katie Tomascak and Olivia Avery played solid defense against a tough Villa team.

 

U10

My Place 3, Creative Mailing 0 – My Place was led by the strong pitching of Lauren Wilcox and defensive play of Shannon Lynch and Aimee Alexander. Katie Laaksonen had two hits and scored a run while Lauren Wilcox and Annika Alexander each contributed 2 hits. For Creative Mailing, Kaylie Daniels collected two hits and Jillian Gibney, Lindsay Hoyt and Larissa Spies had a hit a piece.

My Place 4, Newtown General Store 4 – Kathryn Kerins put Newtown General Store on the scoreboard early; scoring after a leadoff single in the top of the first. Strong pitching by Liz Townsend kept My Place off the scoreboard while NGS added three more runs in the forth with hits from Sarah Spillane and Alexis Tucker. In the bottom of the inning, My Place battled back with four runs behind the hitting of Morgan Daniels, Alicia Vega, Aimee Alexander, Katie Laaksonen, and Lauren Wilcox. Kelsey Nicholson was credited with the RBI that scored the tying run.

Taunton Press 6, Wubba World 5 – Alexis Mulski drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded single as Taunton overcame a five-run deficit. Caitlyn Linden went 2-for-2 and scored the winning run. Shannon Mullins played well defensively. Kelly Merrick and kaitlyn Jones played strong defense for Wubba World, Megan Powers had two hits.

Taunton Press 11, Comfortable Living 0 – All of Taunton’s batters had at least one hit. Anna Baxter had two hits and a pair of RBIs, Brianna Baranowski had three hits and scored three runs. Emily Woznick, Bridget Duevo, and Grace Frost played well for Comfortable Living.

Taunton Press 9, My Place 1 – Rose Pagett pitched well, Alexis Mulski drove in the tying run, and Jenny Edwards had a run-scoring single in the win.

BASEBALL

U13

Newtown Shell Hornets 8, Ridgefield Six 5 – The Hornets boosted their record to 5-0, led by three shutout innings by pitcher Kyle Wilcox. Wilcox struck out seven hitters, crushed a triple and a double, and scored two runs. Chris Tenney knocked in three runs with a double and a single, and pitched a shutout inning. In the fifth inning, he hustled off the mound to field a ball down the first-base line and threw to first baseman Ben Stoller, who made the putout and threw a strike to shortstop Nicky Sajovic to complete a double play. Mac Morlock smacked a towering RBI single to deep right-center, and Sajovic and Connor Blanc drove in a run. John Hampford made a key defensive play, streaking in from right field to take away an apparent single by nailing a runner at second base for a force out in the final inning.

 Newtown Five Guys 9, Aspetuck 7 – Rob Marona (2 hits, including a double, and 3 RBIs ), Jeff Grasso (2 hits), and Austin Ekstrom (2 hits) led the offensive attack as Newtown improved its record to 3-2. Ekstrom also pitched well for three innings, striking out five batters.

Newtown Shell Hornets 9, Newtown Roche Inc 6 – The Hornets jumped out to a 6-1 first-inning lead and then had to fight off a determined comeback by Roche Inc. Kyle Wilcox led the Hornets with three hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Stefan Hennessey ripped two singles and scored twice. Connor Blanc and Ben Stoller knocked in a run with singles, and each pitched a shutout inning. Harry Snellback cracked two hits and drove in a run. For Roche Inc, Kyler Harmeling, Michael Allwein, and Andy Kelley slapped the team’s three hits. Kelley also knocked in a run. He also came in as a relief pitcher in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and struck out looking three consecutive batters. Harmeling threw two shutout innings, striking out three batters.

Emmett & Glander 11, Turner Construction 3 – Chris Calo led the offense for Emmett & Glander with three hits, two runs scored and four runs batted in. Griffin Davis had two singles and two doubles, Val Diiorio singled and scored twice and Sam Omalyev and Andrew Ross each scored a run. For Turner Construction, Joey Carrino drew three walks and stole five bases and Dave Matthews crushed an opposite field fence clearing home run.

Emmett & Glander 7, Dina 5 – Griffin Davis drove in four runs off a single, double and a solo home run. Rob McCabe had two hits, an RBI and scored a run. Erik Street finished strong with three strikeouts in the sixth inning to wrap up the game. Curtis Williamson, Matt Perun, Alex Klang, and Jared Pearson all had base hits. Klang scored two runs. Russell Jacobs and Pat Berger played well defensively.

Newtown Noyes-Ryder Rangers 15, Brookfield Two   4 – Dan Gustafson, Jon Hull, and Troy Larsen combined to hurl five shutout innings. The Rangers got multi-hit games from Nick Barreto (3-for-4, double), Ryan Daignault, Sean Dardine, and Mike Lengel. Also contributing were Mario Pizighelli, who drove in two runs with a long double, and Austin Ryder, who reached home safely three times.

Newtown Shell Hornets 7, Ridgefield Four 6 – Collin Hall smacked a game-winning, walk-off single to give the Hornets a thrilling, come-from-behind victory. The win boosted the team’s undefeated record to 6-0. Down by one run in their last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Hornets’ Chris Robinson lined a single down the left field line. Mac Morlock crushed a towering double beyond the center fielder, moving Robinson to third base. With two outs, John Hampford ripped a clutch, line-drive single to center to tie the game, setting the stage for Hall’s game-winner. Other big Hornets’ hits in the game were a long double to left center by Ben Stoller, two singles by Tyler Gibney and a bunt single by Nicky Sajovic that scored Chris Tenny. Kyle Wilcox scored from second base on a groundball to shortstop by Gibney in the third inning. After errors helped bring home the go-ahead Ridgefield run in the top of the seventh inning, relief pitcher Tenney bared down with the bases-loaded, no outs and the infield drawn in. He retired three straight batters, two on forceouts at the plate and one on a diving grab of a popup by second baseman Hall. Harry Snellback made two big catches in left field, one with the bases loaded in the fifth inning and another in the sixth inning.  

U11

Mt Pleasant Animal Hospital 14, Roche Inc 4 – The Roche Inc “Orange Crush” couldn’t hold off the powerful offense of Mt Pleasant. Leading the “Crush” offensively was Nick Roche with two hits and Virgil Procaccini with a two RBI double. Hits by Mike Davenport and Harry Duffy also added to the effort. On the mound, Procaccini was solid, as was Jacob Burden.

Mobil 1 Lube Express 6, Benchwarmers 3 – The Luber’s remain undefeated winning their sixth consecutive game scattering six runs over five innings. Pitching was once again solid led by the strong arms of Mark Dowling, Carter Priolo, Julian Dunn, Victor Vazquez, and Devon Pallila. At the plate the Luber’s were led by Joshua Krapf, Matt Janco, and Dunn as the trio went a combined 6-9 while driving in all six runs. Defensively, the entire team played stellar with Jake Reed and Jason Ferrari leading the way.

 

U10

Sal e Pepe 10, Gamers 10 – For Sal e Pepe, Aiden Petershack slammed two doubles, and both James Accousti and Zach Aumueller stroked a double and single. Austin Martinez pitched a shutout inning. For the Gamers, James Leuci and Patrick Briscoe each scored two crucial runs to tie the game in extra innings. The tying run came from Tony Leonardi who reached base three times during the game. An excellent pitching performance by Mason Melillo who did not allow a run.

Studio Green 12, DINA 0 – Studio Green was led offensively by Joe Duero, Jaret DeVellis, and Glen daMota who all had big hits. Michael Ziluck, Zach Hamar, and Stephen Pansa each scored key runs and Gustavo Porto made two nice defensive plays. Andrew Craigin and Michael Parker each pitched two shutout innings. For DINA, Curtis Williamson again pitched two strong innings on the mound. Russell Jacobs pitched and played well in the field. Matt Perun made his pitching debut after coming back into the lineup.

Turner Construction 5, Studio Green 5 – Studio Green was led offensively by Michael Parker who had two doubles and Andrew Craigin who also ripped a double. Joe Duero had a single and pitched two scoreless innings and Stephen Pansa made three nice defensive plays. Dave Matthews and Nick Randle combined for four hits and three runs. Nick Samuelson stroked a clutch bases loaded single and Andrew Pfiefer started the three run third inning with a key walk.

Gamers 13, Fiorella 11 – Luke Rustici went 3 for 4, scored two runs and pitched brilliantly. Patrick Briscoe, Devin Peterson, and Mason Melillo each had a pair of singles in the win. Zach Weiland, Austin Huffman, Paul O’Leary, Ethan Carpenter, and Michael Doyle all added hits.

U9

 Attorney Greg LaDestro 1, Red Baron Carpet 0 – Owen Samson hit in the winning run while Lucas LaDestro and John Cagganello each had key hits.

Benchmark Group 14, Red Baron Carpet 8 – Geoffrey Santore, Richard Ciamarra, and Joseph Accousti powered the offense with a combined six hits. Thomas Cotton pitched a scoreless inning on the mound. Christian Thanasoulis stopped a hard hit ground ball to keep Red Baron Carpet from scoring. Matthew Sodoski and Jack Riley also help defensively.

Benchmark Group 6, Mobil One Lube Express 5 – Benchmark Group victorious under strong hitting by Steven Moochio, Richard Ciamarra, Geoffrey Santore, Joseph Accousti, and Thomas Cotton with a combined 13 hits. Michael Capaldo pitched two scoreless innings on the mound Matthew Clark, Scott Alexander and Jack Riley helped defensively. Mobil One fought back from a six run deficit with a five run inning in the sixth but it was too little too late. The “Lubers” were led by Sam Duffy’s three RBI triple and Justin Dunn’s fantastic pitching. Samantha Cody and Nick Calbo were exceptional in the field.

Mobil One Lube Express 10, Red Baron Carpet 6 – The Mobil One “Lubers” played tough on both sides of the field as they beat Red Baron Carpet. They were led by Parker Johnson’s three hits and Michael Meyer’s and Shawn Fulton’s two hits each. Andrey Masser and Gavin Stubbs played tough defense and Shawn Fulton, Justin Dunn, and Daniel Pearson combined for the “Lube’rs” first triple play of the season.

Benchmark Group 6, Fiorella Insurance Group 2 – The benchmark group was lead defensively with Michael Capaldo and Geoffrey Santore pitching four scoreless innings on the mound. The offense was led by Steven Moochio who had three RBIs. Richard Ciamarra, Jack Riley, and Matthew Sodoski contributed to Benchmark Group victory.

Onex 10, Burrell and Winans 3 – Onex pitchers’ Matt Gerics and Adam Robertson combined to pitch three scoreless innings. Vijay Makayee, Seth Willis, Ben Reilly, and Tim LeBlanc powered the offense scoring a combined eight runs.

Onex 7, Red Baron Carpet 6 – Onex came from behind to win a tight ballgame. Ben Reilly, Seth Willis, and Pat Heinlein scored key runs on a bases loaded double by Timmy LeBlanc. Matt Gerics and Adam Robertson combined to pitch three scoreless innings. Red Baron got solid pitching from Jack Moulder and Kellend Christie. Mike Schlesinger had two hits.
