Babe Ruth Scholarship Award Winner

Christina Wolf was selected to receive the Newtown Babe Ruth Softball Scholarship Award in the amount of $1,000. Christina was selected based on the quality of her essay, her active involvement in the league, academic excellence, and community involvement. To be selected for the scholarship participants were required to submit an essay and write about how their involvement in softball has had a positive impact on their life. To be considered, candidates must have participated in the town’s Babe Ruth Softball League. Christina plans to attend Southern Connecticut State University in the fall.

Newtown’s softball league is the largest Girls Babe Ruth League in the entire New England region, which encompasses six states. Newtown currently has more than 400 girls participating in the league from ages 6 to 17.

Additionally, Newtown will host this year’s 12U Girls Babe Ruth State Tournament for the first time, the second weekend in July.
