Bake Sale, 9 am–1 pm, Lexington Gardens, 36 Church Hill Road, members of Newtown Woman’s Club will be selling fresh-baked goods to raise funds for Newtown Underwater Search & Rescue (NUSAR).

Salute the Soldiers Ceremony, 10 am, Newtown VFW Hall, 18 Tinkerfield Road, multigenerational ceremony will pay tribute to all US soldiers who have died defending country, active military members, and WWII veterans during 60th anniversary of VE Day (organizing committee still accepting names of soldiers to be read aloud during service), all welcome; 426-2298, 426-8563.

Annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race, festival runs 10 am–4 pm, duck race is at 2, Glen Road parking lot, Sandy Hook Center, tickets for duck race $5 each, also ongoing festival with vendors, community organizations, musicians, magicians, children’s games, and entertainment; 426-4529.

The Joker Fired Twice, curtain 7 pm, Grace Christian Fellowship, 174 Mt Pleasant Road, tickets $15–$20 adults, $10 students, performance of an original two-act comedy-mystery by Pat Cook presented by GCF’s senior high youth group is fundraiser for group’s upcoming mission trip, tickets include refreshments, second performance will be May 29; 270-1005.

Newtown Forest Association Guided Nature Walk, 10:30 am (rain date June 5), Wasserman Preserve-The Glen, Walnut Tree Hill Road (at Black Bridge Road), join NFA board members for easy hike while learning the history of the property and discussion of plants and wildlife that might be found along the walk, will last about an hour, NFA is offering monthly walks until mid-October to celebrate tercentennial; 270-3650.

NUMC Monthly Pasta Dinner, 5–7:30 pm, Newtown United Methodist Church’s Rauner Hall, 92 Church Hill Road, admission $8 adults, $7 seniors, $3.50 children, full spaghetti dinner includes salad, desserts, and soft drinks/coffee raises funds each month for church, all welcome, coffee house/musical event follows; 426-0617.
