At Nutmeg Gallery

KENT — Recent still life and landscape paintings by Robert Lenz of South Kent are on view at The Nutmeg Gallery, 5 Maple Street in Kent.

Mr Lenz’s first exhibit at the gallery in May 2003 was “a runaway success,” according to Bill Morrison, owner of The Nutmeg Gallery. The gallery has become a venue for display of the work of first-rank regional artists such as Robert Andrew Parker and Ira Barkoff.

Mr Lenz’s current exhibit runs through June 12.

“During the past year I believe I have accelerated the maturation process that most artists experience during their careers,” Mr Lenz says. “I feel more confidence, more experimental, looser and more self critical. It is an exhilarating experience and exasperating at the same time. I look forward to this process of maturing continuing; for if artists ever feel they have learned enough, they might as well clean their brushes and retire to the front porch.”

Robert Lenz has been painting since he was a young man, but his artistic path was interrupted when his career as an advertising executive blossomed. He went on to create memorable advertising campaigns – including the famous “Tastes Great-Less Filling” promotion for Miller Lite beer – and was able to return to painting only after his retirement a few years ago.

He has since exhibited his work at Silvermine, Kent Art Association, and Paris-New York-Kent Gallery.

“The Lenz paintings sold wonderfully at his first exhibit at The Nutmeg Gallery in May 2003 and ever since we’ve been asked when we would feature him again,” Mr Morrison said.
