Walking To  Cure Autism

Newtown resident Carrie Cabral is organizing a coalition team to attend the third annual Walk FAR For NAAR event to held by the National Alliance for Autism Research at Manhattanville College, in Purchase, N.Y., on June 6.

“Money raised will help fund research efforts and bring us closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease,” Mrs Cabral said. “More than 80 percent of the money raised goes directly to research and in the past NAAR has been able to multiply the total raised by eight by getting matching funds and grants.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit NAAR, whose primary mission is to fund and accelerate biomedical research that seeks to find the causes, prevention, treatment, and a cure for autism.

Walk FAR for NAAR tee-shirts have been donated by Angel Ark of Bethel and some in sizes extra large, large, and medium are available free for walkers at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, where there also is a collection box for cash donations. Angel Ark is selling $2 and $5 paper  “footprints” to raise money for autism research.

Mrs Cabral is encouraging everyone who is to call her at 270-7583 as she is signing up walkers and collecting pledges.

The college in Purchase, N.Y., is about a 45-minute drive from Newtown, she said. “Take the Hutchison parkway to Exit 27 in New York, then Route 120. The college is one-half mile on the left.”

More information also is available on the website www.naar.org or by calling NAAR at 888-777-NAAR or emailing autismwalk@naar.org. Donations also may be sent to NAAR at 99 Wall Street, Research Park, Princeton NJ 08540.
