The public is invited to Catherine’s Butterfly Party, Saturday, June 6, from noon to 4 pm, at the Fairfield Hills Campus, 4 Primrose Street. A program of the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation and the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, the event will include a Super Adoption Event, as well as animal- and nature-centered programs, demonstrations, vendors, and live music. The party is intended for all ages.

Catherine Hubbard had always pleaded for an “all animal birthday party” for her June birthday, every year, said her mother, Jennifer Hubbard. Six-year-old Catherine, who died at Sandy Hook Elementary School, 12/14, loved all animals, from the smallest insect to the largest mammal.

Dogs and cats seeking forever homes will be available for adoption at the Super Adoption Event. Rescue groups from the tri-state area, including DAWS, ASPCA and Mayors Alliance of New York City, will bring animals to Catherine’s Butterfly Party. All animals available will be up to date on vaccinations.

Find out about some of nature’s most delicate and beautiful insects. From South Deerfield, Mass., Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens Butterfly Education will offer information about the different species of butterflies. Audubon Center at Bent of the River in Southbury will join the party to discuss ways to protect the environment and the butterflies that call it home.

Also winged and beautiful are the birds of prey from Horizon Wings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education Center. Join staff from this Ashford, Conn., wildlife rehabilitation center for demonstrations during the afternoon. Although the goal is to return injured animals to the wild, not all raptors can be released, due to injuries. These birds are used for the educational seminars.

Newtown dog behavior and training facility The Exceptional Pet will have dogs on hand to perform agility training demonstrations, and will provide training tips.

Other vendors and exhibitors at Catherine’s Butterfly Party include Newtown’s Your Healthy Pet, selling dog treats, pet food, and pet toys; and representatives from Freshpet all-natural refrigerated pet food and treats, distributing samples.

Animal chaplain Barbra Richards will offer animal blessings, and guests can visit with celebrity pet groomer Jorge Bendersky. Mr Bendersky’s talents have been seen on Animal Planet’s reality show, The Groomer Has It, as a judge on TLC’s Extreme Poodles and as the new grooming expert on Animal Planet’s Dogs 101, according to his website, planetjorge.com. His dog grooming facility, Planet Jorge in New York City, caters to “the four-legged children of the New York City’s elite.”

Homegrown Arts of Sandy Hook will display artwork and have hands-on art activities for children, and Dr Allen Schoen, author of The Compassionate Equestrian, will sign copies of his book.

Live music will add to the festivities, provided by LaFrance Acoustic. A father-daughter duo from New York, Lindsey and Todd LaFrance have been performing together for more than 20 years. LaFrance Acoustic draws from groups like The Indigo Girls, Fleetwood Mac, and The Civil Wars, with poetic influences including artist from Gladys Knight to Sheryl Crowe to Blues Traveler.

The party fun includes face painting and balloon twisting, as well, and for those in need of a snack, the Mobile Pie Pizza Truck will sell gourmet vegetarian cuisine. Wash it down with a cup of lemonade from Catherine’s Cups of Kindness lemonade stand.

All proceeds from the sale of lemonade and promotional items will benefit the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.

There is no admission for Catherine’s Butterfly Party, which the CVH Foundation hopes will become an annual event.

Catherine’s Butterfly Party is not associated with the Merryhill Child Care Center’s 25th Anniversary Party, featuring Touch-A-Truck, also on NYA Sports & Fitness Center premises that day.

The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation is hoping that Catherine’s Butterfly Party, which will take place on the green at 4 Primrose Street on June 6, will become an annual event.
