Arts Showcase In Park City

Will Kick Off Summer Festival

BRIDGEPORT — City Lights and Co., downtown Bridgeport’s community arts center and gallery, will present Indoor/Outdoor, an arts showcase that will kick off the summer-long Sweetport Art, Music and Heritage Festival on May 30-31, from 11 am to 4 pm.

Indoor/Outdoor will expand upon Sweetport’s tradition of innovative music programming.  McLevy Green will once again host the Main Stage, featuring such major acts as Mates of State, Caravan of Thieves, The Zambonis, and Cosmic Jibaros, with performances running 2 to 9 pm. Music will also be hosted that evening at Two Boots, Las Vetas Lounge and Murphy’s Law, all in Bijou Square on Fairfield Avenue.

The event will feature temporary public art projects and installations, and an Art Walk that will take visitors from the Barnum Museum on a trip through art and history in downtown Bridgeport.  More than 100 local and regional artists will present their work or perform their art on the spot.  Weaving Hands’ oversized loom, the Greetings from Bridgeport community portrait, aerosol mural making and green art projects are just a few of the creative elements that will be on view to the public during Indoor/Outdoor.

The program will highlight some of Bridgeport’s historic buildings, including Bijou Theatre, Mechanics & Farmers Bank, The Barnum Museum, Reads Art Space, The Arcade and City Trust. Inside City Trust will be a sampling of artists from many of the area’s major artist enclaves, such as Bridgeport’s American Fabric Building, Knowleton Street, Stamford Artists’ Association, Norwalk Arts Council, and New Haven’s Artspace.

The weekend will close with the free and public Keys music recital at Playhouse on the Green on Sunday, May 31.  The Keys program provides individualized music instruction to students in Bridgeport, and City Lights is proud to host this recital of Keys instructors and students. The recital will be preceded by a fundraiser, hosted by City Lights & Co., with mimosas and hors d’oeuvres.

All activities are rain or shine, but some may change location in the event of inclement weather.  For more information contact Melissa A. Bernstein at 203-722-5389 or Melissa_Bernstein@hotmail.com, or visit CityLightsGallery.org.
