Clifford Reiss

Clifford Reiss, 91, of Newtown, formerly of Danbury, husband of Susan (Mankes) Reiss, died June 4, at his home. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., July 24, 1926, son of Abraham and Ethel (Kravatz) Reiss.

Mr Reiss attended New York schools and graduated from the Bronx School of Science and Bucknell University. He was a World War II US Navy veteran.

He was an area resident for the past 66 years, coming to Danbury in 1952 and establishing the former Cliff's Auto Parts Store on White Street. He later established Clifford Construction Company Inc, building many homes in Danbury and surrounding towns, and he was also a commercial property real estate agent with Ryer & Associates. Mr Reiss was affectionately known as "Mr Cliff" by his co-workers, associates, and friends.

Mr Reiss was a member of the Danbury Chamber of Commerce, the United Jewish Center, its Men's Club, and the B'nai B'rith.

His wife of 66 years, Susan; daughter, Joanne Reiss of Methuen, Mass.; two sons, Andrew Reiss and his wife, Gail, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and James Reiss and his wife, Arlene, of Framingham, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Erika Fasanella and her husband, Andrew, Daniel Reiss and his wife, Jess, Julie Reiss, Rebecca Klayman, Jonathan Klayman, Jaclyn Reiss and her fiancé, Matthew Rocheleau, and Deanna Reiss; and several nieces and nephews survive him.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Muriel Simon, predeceased him.

Funeral services will take place Wednesday, June 6, at 1 pm in the United Jewish Center, 141 Deer Hill Avenue, Danbury, with Rabbi Stephan Tiwy and Cantor Penny Kessler officiating. Interment will follow in the United Jewish Center Cemetery, 110 Grays Bridge Road, Brookfield, with military honors.
