Summer Jam Concert Series Returning To Dickinson Park

The Third Annual Claris Construction Inc Summer Jam Concert Series will kick off this season on June 23 with an energetic performance by the Boston-based Vanessa Trien and the Jumping Monkeys, returning to Newtown to open the third annual series in as many years.

Parents or guardians are encouraged to pack a blanket and a picnic lunch and take their children to Dickinson Park for the free concerts, which will be presented on Tuesdays beginning at noon. Performances are held at the band shell of the town park at 50 Elm Drive. They are free and open to the public thanks to sponsorship by Claris Construction and other local sponsors.

The start time this year is noon, 30 minutes earlier than in years past.

The series is a program of Newtown Parks & Recreation. Each event will last approximately one hour.

Performances are for all ages, with a special focus on children age 10 and under.

The series will continue on June 30 with an energetic performance by two-time Grammy nominee Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could, making their Summer Jam Concert Series debut.

July 7 will feature a return by the interactive, fiddling fun, hoedown performers The Bossy Frog Band

The Dream Jam Band will headline the following week, on July 14. In addition, The Emergency Ice Cream Truck will make a stop, and there will be a special activity hosted by The Ben’s Lighthouse Project.

On July 21, PBS mega personality Steve Songs (a/k/a Mr Steve); and July 28, a return performance by Cincinnati-based Grammy nominee Zak Morgan.

This year’s series will conclude on August 4 with a performance by Latin Grammy nominee Mister G.

Concerts may be moved from the bandshell to the park’s pavilion in the event of light rain. For more severe weather, a performance will me moved to an indoor location within town.

Rain delays or other program changes will be announced through Parks & Rec, as well as on The Newtown Bee’s Facebook page if they need to be made.
