To the Editor:

Families United in Newtown (FUN), a recreational program for families with special needs children, teens, and adults, sponsored their 6th Annual Benefit Concert Sunday, June 4, in the beautiful Congregational Church. Three hundred attendees supported our first Pizza Challenge, provided by six local Newtown Pizzerias. Lions Bleecker Street, My Place, Carminuccios, Francos, The Villa, and Red Rooster generously donated their most bodacious pies for the large crowd. The voters chose Lions Bleecker Street as "FUN #1 Pizza," and My Place won the best "Specialty Pizza." Thanks to Bee Sweet Custom Cookies and Cake (Rubix Cube Cake), BJ's Danbury, Butcher's Best, Elmer's Diner, and New Fairfield Stop & Shop.

Newtown National Honors Society students decorated, helped serve our guests, run the raffle/auction, and mentor. Many thanks to more than sixty businesses that graciously donated ad spots and auction and/or raffle items. Many thanks to our special guest performer, star pianist/vocalist and YouTube Sensation from New Jersey, Jodi DiPiazza; Jay Thomas (MC); Hafez Taghavi (music director); Bob Keagan (technical director); Brendon Fox (stage manager); John Voket (DJ); Lisa Schwartz (Poet Laureate); Dr Bob McWilliams; Dr Margaret Bauman; and over thirty extremely talented musicians that donated their time and talent for our cause.

Thank you Steve Bennett, Vicki Truitt, Newtown Public Schools, Mr Jeff Tolson, Newtown Methodist Church, Newtown Savings Bank, Dawn Lipke, Lisa Bell, Chris Nuelle, Laura Rothenhausen, Angela Brown, Lesley Troy, Suzanne Lang, Kerri Williams, Ann Williams, Stacey Ohlin, Anita and Peter Lucsky, Lauren and Maura Granville, Jessica Lyons, Erica and Natalie Shaker, Phil and Joanne Keane, Eunice (Bagel Delight), David Merrill, the Fords, Dance Dimensions, Dan Rosenthal, Charter Communication, Southbury Printers, and the outstanding audience.
