Boyajian’s ‘Resurgence’ At Sculpture Barn This Summer

NEW FAIRFIELD — The Connecticut-based sculptor David Boyajian will present “Resurgence,” an exhibition and sale of his work on the grounds and in the gallery at The Boyajian Sculpture Barn, for the weekend of June 26-27.

The weekend-long event will run each day from 10 am until sunset, with live entertainment and refreshments to open the summer exhibition. Following the June weekend event the exhibition will continue through September 6 by appointment only. The show celebrates Mr Boyajian’s first year in his new studios.

“Resurgence” offers Mr Boyajian’s latest steel, stainless steel and bronze sculptures, which are informed by an understanding of new directions in contemporary art and metal fabrication techniques. Notable among the new pieces are several complex “Dicotyledons,” variations on his recently launched “Cotyledons” cycle, depicting seed forms as they burst into elemental growth. The evocative natural imagery, a staple of Mr Boyajian’s mature work, abstractly suggests life beginning.

The exhibition will also include a dozen freestanding steel pieces in a four-acre landscaped sculpture field, ranging in size from four to eleven feet, as well as a few ornamental trellis pieces of wrought iron.

Inside the 3,000-square foot gallery are sculptures in a variety of materials, from small table top bronze and stainless steel pieces to monumental figures carved from wood. The expansive walls are donned with bold new drawings in charcoal and pastel.

The Sculpture Barn is on Route 39 at the corner of Milltown Road, about five miles from I-84 Exit 5. For additional information call 746-6101 or visit www.SculptureBarn.com.
