‘Data & Info’ Course And Sculpture Tour

RIDGEFIELD — Acclaimed sculptor and design expert Edward Tufte will teach a three-hour version of his famous course, “Presenting Data and Information,” at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, July 11. After the lecture, he will lead a tour of his major sculpture exhibition, “Seeing Around,” at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, also in Ridgefield.

Participants will each receive copies of Mr Tufte’s new book on analytical design, Beautiful Evidence, and his essay, Seeing Around.  The unique event is a benefit for The Aldrich, Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust in Woodbury, and Ridgefield Conservation Commission.

Edward Tufte, a Professor at Princeton and Yale for 32 years, was described by The New York Times as the “Leonardo da Vinci of data” and by Business Week as the “Galileo of graphics.”  He has written, designed and self-published four classic books on analytical design: The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, Envisioning Information, Visual Explanations, and Beautiful Evidence.

In the last ten years he has created 40 monumental outdoor artworks, 100 table pieces and many steel engravings and digital prints. His sculpture fields are located on 165 acres in Woodbury and Cheshire.

The Playhouse lecture will take place from 1 to 4:30 pm, with the sculpture tour and a reception immediately afterwards at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum.

Donations are $250; full-time students and teachers, $100. The entire donation will go to the beneficiaries.
