Go Slow On Programs Of Dubious Value

To the Editor:

The opinion page during the last few weeks have been interestingly controversial. The information presented about plastic bags is an eye opener. I never thought my reusables could be laden with germs. Now what do I do?

And while I agree that the climate is getting warmer, I never understood how a gas that is 300 or 400 parts per million has the same effect on light energy as a car windshield that is made of one million parts per million. Having grown up during a period when the air was full of lead, uncombined hydrocarbons as well as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, not to mention asbestos and coal cinders, I marvel at how much the atmosphere has been cleaned up.

I’ve been around almost 90 years, and from my standpoint, we have probably managed to eliminate 99 percent of the mess while creating a couple of percent more. So let’s keep the opinions flowing on these environmental issues, but let’s not start to create programs of dubious value while we go after that last one percent.
