Ethel L. Powell

Ethel L. Powell, 85, of West Palm Beach, Fla., passed away June 18, surrounded by her family, after a sudden illness. Ethel moved from Sandy Hook, where she lived and raised her family from 1942 until 1971 when she moved to Florida.

Ethel is survived by her children, George Powell, Jr, and his wife, Sherry, Joy Loveland and her husband, David, Cecelia Zyla, Donna Humphreys, Kim Powell, and Peter Powell and his wife, Bea; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Michael Lucas and his wife, Josephine. Ethel was predeceased by her daughter, Marion Elizabeth Powell; her son, Timothy Powell; her granddaughter, Michelle Powell; and sons-in-law Robert Zyla and Randy Humphreys.

She was a member of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for more than 20 years. Ethel was an employee at Doctor’s Hospital as Housekeeping Supervisor from 1972 until 1987, at which time she retired to take care of her husband of 51 years, George Powell, until his death in 1987.

From 1988 until 1998 she worked for local day care centers, giving her love to many infants and children. From 1998 until the present she was employed by Redi Nurse, providing companionship to other elderly adults. Ethel was a member of St Luke Catholic Church.

Memorial services were held June 21 at Dorsey-E Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Lake Worth, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs Powell to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
