To the Editor:

On June 15th the town clerk's office sponsored its 28th Annual Low Cost Rabies Clinic.

A very special thank you to Dr. Rakesh Vali, DVM and his Assistant Mary Thompson of Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital for donating their time that morning to vaccinate over 60 pets in under two hours. They are always so gentle and patient with the animals.

For over 20 years the Newtown Woman's Club have helped to expedite the vaccination process for the clinic by filling out the rabies certificates for residents which is then given to Dr. Vali. The NWC volunteers over the years have been drooled on, barked at, and if it was a rainy day endured that wet dog shake and smell, yet they never hesitate to help! Many thanks go to Marion Thompson, Marie Sturdevant, Carol Mattegatt, Evelyn Spera, Mary Antey, Jean Smith and Ellyn Gehrett.

And thank you to Virginia Jess from Canine Advocates of Newtown for helping and enlisting Mary Hanlon, Lisa Belvedere-Santini, Mary Singerland and Brian and Mary Beth Rice. They take on the task of keeping an orderly flow and are always concerned with the welfare of the animals as they wait making sure that they are hydrated and happy.

The Rabies Clinic's is a great service to our community and wouldn't be possible every year without their volunteering.
