On Monday, July 1, to honor a long-serving Newtown Police Department member, police and town officials gathered in the police station's roll call room where First Selectman Dan Rosenthal presented a certificate of appreciation to Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner for his 25 years of police service.

On display at the event was a photo taken 25 years ago of Sgt Wisentaner being sworn into office by then Police Commission Chairman Richard Sturdevant.

Looking on in that photo were Richard Stook, Jr, who also was sworn in as a police officer, and Robert Cascella, who was then serving his first of his two terms as first selectman.

The old photo spurred memories of a simpler time, before the internet was in wide use.
