Judith (Eastwood) Dobbrow

Judith (Eastwood) Dobbrow, 83, longtime resident of Newtown, also of Ashaway and Weekapaug, R.I., died on July 11. She was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Clough) and Howard F. Eastwood, and the wife of the late Roger D. Dobbrow.www.rushlowiacoifuneralhome.com.

Her companion, James Goodman; children and spouses, Peter and Jacqueline Dobbrow of Sandy Hook, Elizabeth and Charles Peaslee of Guilford, and Mark and Sarah Dobbrow of San Francisco, and her grandchildren survive her. She is also survived by her sister, Joanne E. Tainsh of Barrington, R.I.

Mrs Dobbrow attended Lincoln School in Providence and graduated from Skidmore College. She received her MS from Western Connecticut State University. Mrs Dobbrow was a teacher in Barrington, Greenwich, and Newtown until 1992. She was then employed by the Bureau of Education and Research in Seattle, giving workshops nationwide for primary teachers.

Mrs Dobbrow was active in many organizations throughout her lifetime. In Newtown, she served as president of the PTA and cofounded the Connecticut Chapter of Teachers Applying Whole Language. In Rhode Island, she was a member of the Westerly College Club, which she at one time served as president, the Babcock Smith House Docents, where she also served as president, and was on the board of the Chorus of Westerly. She also served on the board of the Hopkinton Historical Society.

In addition to her community activities, Mrs Dobbrow enjoyed her summers in Maine, travel -  especially to Africa, and duplicate bridge, where she was a bronze Life Master.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, at 11 am, at Christ Church, 7 Elm Street, Westerly, R.I.
