Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters hope to be using their new firehouse at 12 Church Hill Road by mid-August. On Wednesday, July 13, paving work was underway at the firehouse site, where a pumphouse for the Aquarion Water Company also is under construction. The new firehouse features four double-depth garage bays, which have automatic overhead doors on both the front and rear of the building. Electric service is scheduled to be connected to the firehouse soon. Carpeted flooring will soon be installed. The new firehouse will replace the dilapidated town-owned firehouse at 45 Main Street currently used by the fire company. (Bee Photo, Gorosko)
