As children splashed, instructors at Treadwell Park on Wednesday, July 6, offered helpful tips and advice.

"Nice long arms," one said.

Another said to make "ice cream scoops" with hands to help with one type of stroke.

Waterfront Director Carolyn Fagerholm said the second session of Parks and Recreation's summer swim lessons was going well so far, with instructors offering Red Cross Swim Lessons nearby. Every lesson offered through the Parks and Recreation program meets Red Cross standards, according to Ms Fagerholm.

The third Summer Swim Lessons session runs from July 18 to July 29, and more information about the programs is available online at parks.newtown-ct.gov or by calling 203-270-4340.

Ms Fagerholm said seven levels of classes are offered, starting with "mommy and me" classes.

The fee for sessions runs from $110 to $130.
