Ruth (Hubertus) Rowe and Bruce Kevin Loev, of Danbury, died unexpectedly July 10. Ms Rowe was born in White Plains, N.Y., September 22, 1966, to Patricia and Robert Hubertus.

In 1991, she married Arthur Rowe. They made their home in Newtown, where they raised their children. Their strong sense of family and community led to years of Little League coaching, a home often full of family and friends, backyard barbecues, and the traditional Christmas dinner full of love, laughter, and red wine. Known for her nurturing and patience, Ms Rowe was a strong role model for her children, living by the credo “Gotta tend the earth if you want a rose.”

She graduated from Pleasantville High School in New York, in 1984, where she excelled academically and athletically. She attended the University of Delaware, receiving a BA in education, and later receiving her master's.

Ms Rowe dedicated herself to teaching children and spent her entire teaching career in the Pawling School District. She was highly respected by colleagues and the community for her warmth, enthusiasm, and passion for teaching.

An accomplished athlete, she was a tenacious shortstop, and an avid runner, completing several marathons. A talented guitarist, Ms Rowe shared her love of music, from the Beatles to the Indigo Girls, through concerts, car rides, and beach time on Martha’s Vineyard, where her parents created a home for family and friends to gather and relax, enjoy dinner on the beach, a Thanksgiving football game, or an afternoon of clamming.

Whether watching a sunset on Martha’s Vineyard, going out for an early-morning run, educating young minds, or serenading all listeners, her free spirit captured and inspired all who knew her.

Old flames, Ms Rowe and Mr Loev had recently reconnected after losing touch for nearly 25 years. They celebrated their marriage on July 5, 2013, surrounded by family and friends in Bryn Mawr, Penn.  

Mr Loev was born May 5, 1962, in Wynnewood, Penn. He attended elementary and middle school in Broomall, Penn.  He graduated from Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, N.Y., and then attended Lehigh University where he studied engineering, receiving his BA in 1983.

He worked as a civil engineer, specializing in aviation for more than 25 years, most recently working for URS Corporation in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was a recipient of many awards in the field of aviation, such as the ACC Board of Governors Award in 2003.

In 1989, he was married to Linda Wimpfheimer, and two years later their daughter was born, in Albany, N.Y.  Just before their son was born in 1995, Bruce and his family moved to Orlando, Fla.  They spent four years there until making the move to the Arizona desert. 

One of his great joys in life was skiing. He would spend the winters skiing as many weekends as he could in Colorado, Utah, and Vancouver. Always able to shine on the mogul runs, he was happiest when skiing. Mr Loev also loved to play golf, fish, and watch football, hockey, and his children’s soccer games.  He not only loved to participate in a wide variety of sports, but also passed down and taught this ability to his children. While driving to soccer games, or skiing down a mountain, it was almost certain that classic rock would be playing in the background. An avid lover of all music, his favorite performer was Elton John.

Mr Loev taught his children to love themselves, to follow their hearts, and to let go of the negatives that may slow them down from enjoying life. He could easily put a smile on anyone’s face with his quick wit and sense of humor. His friends and family will love and miss him forever.

Her fatherRobert and her stepmother JoAnn; her children Emily and Kaleb; her twin brother Michael Hubertus, and his wife Kara; her sister Sarah Russo, and her husband Joe; nieces, a nephew, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins survive Ms Rowe. Her mother, Patricia Hubertus, whose memory continues to inspire and strengthen her family during this difficult time, predeceased her.

Mr Loev is survived by his mother and father, Pearl and Dr Bernard Loev; his children Jennifer and Brian; and his brothers Glen and Larry.

His funeral took place Monday, July 15, at Bethel Cemetery, in Bethel. Shiva for Mr Loev will take place Wednesday, July 17, as well as Thursday evening, July 18, at his brother Glen’s home, in Bryn Mawr, Penn.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Ms Rowe at 10:30 am, Thursday, July 18, at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, followed by a private burial next to Mr Loev.
