Marshall Zitnay

Marshall F. Zitnay, 105, previously a longtime resident of Newtown, died July 13 in Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home, Stratford. He was born in Bridgeport June 7, 1912, a son of Mary (Yacko) and Stephen Zitnay.

A resident of Newtown from 1947 to 2014, Mr Zitnay was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church.

Mr Zitnay began his working career at Chance Vought, which eventually became Sikorsky Aircraft. He retired as building superintendent from Avco-Lycoming Textron in 1977. In retirement, Mr Zitnay was an avid fisherman, and he spent many early mornings fishing Taunton Lake.

His daughter, Carole Chapman of New York; a grandson, Gregory Hopkins of Stratford; two great-granddaughters, and a great-great-granddaughter survive him.

His wife, Anna, predeceased him in 2003.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Wednesday, July 19, from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church on Wednesday, July 19, at 11 am. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery, Newtown.
