The public is invited to join Mr Mangold for work sessions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, July 18-19. He will be working along the trail from 2 until at least 5:30 pm each afternoon.

Those who would like to help with pruning, weeding, and general upkeep should bring their own gloves, and drinking water.  Volunteers can join the event for some or all of the time on either or both days.

The Newtown Fruit Trail will eventually be a one-mile, paved walking loop within Fairfield Hills, lined with edible fruit, nut, and berry plants. Mr Mangold's plan is to bring "productivity to landscape, providing for the health of the land and the people as one," according to his website,

The first steps toward establishing the fruit trail were taken in 2015, when Mr Mangold began presenting his idea to necessary town boards and commissions. The trail was planted in June 2016.
