Special Police Patrols Issue Violations

Police report that they arrested one motorist on a charge of driving under the influence during a special DUI enforcement project that ran from July 3 through 7, amid the Independence Day holiday period.

Such enforcement projects use high-visibility, roving police patrols to reduce the injuries and fatalities stemming from drunken driving. The patrols also enforce other vehicular violations, according to Sergeant John Cole.

Other enforcement actions that police took during the patrols included the issuance of: 19 speeding infractions, 20 speeding written warnings, four stop sign violation infractions, seven vehicular equipment and registration infractions, and 28 miscellaneous vehicular violation written warnings.

Police use funds from a federal grant program to cover 75 percent of the police overtime costs for the roving patrols.
