Janice Edith "Jan" Scott, 75, of Newtown, died peacefully July 19, surrounded by family. She was born November 1, 1942, in New York, N.Y., and was the daughter of Henry Busch and Muriel (Young) Busch. She was raised in the Astoria section of Queens, N.Y., and graduated from Julia Richman High School in 1960.

On April 5, 1963, she married Stanley "Stan" Suhar at Grace Lutheran Church in Astoria, where the couple originally met. They were involved in the church, where Mrs Scott taught Sunday school. In 1967, they moved to North Plainfield, N.J., and in 1970, she gave birth to a son, Todd E. Suhar. In 1971, the family moved to Pittstown, N.J., where they resided until 1987. During this time, her loved ones say, she was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, art, antiquing, classical music, yoga, and spending time with family and friends.

Shortly after Stan's untimely death in 1980, Mrs Scott started a small cleaning and home improvement business, JanStan Services, as a means to support both her and Todd. She also pursued her goal of obtaining a college degree by taking evening classes at Raritan Valley Community College, where she obtained an Associate's Degree in 1985. In 1981, she met Dennis Scott at the Unitarian Church in Morristown, and they were married on September 6, 1986, at St Paul Lutheran Church in Flemington, N.J.

The couple and her son relocated to Sandy Hook in 1987. During this time, they enjoyed hiking, traveling, exercising at Club NewFit, and sharing a mutual love for animals. She continued to pursue her professional and education goals by becoming a licensed Real Estate Agent and graduating with honors from Western Connecticut University with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Justice and Law Administration in 1993.

Before retiring in 2008, Mrs Scott worked for ten years with Cartus Relocation in Danbury. In 2016, the couple moved from their Sandy Hook home of more than 25 years to Newtown Woods townhouses, where they continued to enjoy retirement and frequent visits with family and friends.

Her husband, Dennis; son, Todd, and his wife, Danielle Suhar, of Southbury; four grandchildren, Emma, Hunter, Paige, and Jonah; brother, Matthew Busch of Malvern, N.Y.; and three nieces survive her.

Friends may call Tuesday, July 24, from 5 to 8 pm, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 25, at 11 am, in Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Janice Scott to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown CT 06470.
