'Large Quantity' Prescription Pills & Controlled Substances: Four Charges For Local Juvenile

A Newtown juvenile was stopped while driving on Church Hill Road late Wednesday evening and subsequently arrested with four serious drug-related charges.a post on Newtown Police Department's Facebook page, the incident that led to the arrest began at 11:23 pm, July 25, when Newtown Police Sergeant Matthew Wood stopped a vehicle that had been traveling on Church Hill Road with no headlights on.[naviga:img class="aligncenter wp-image-331769" src="https://newtownbee.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/July-25-Church-Hill-Road-DUI-drug-bust-Newtown-PD-photo.jpg" alt="July 25 Church Hill Road drug bust -- Newtown PD photo" width="800" height="533" /]Newtown Police seized more than 1,000 Xanax pills and a large quantity of Molly crystal rock during a traffic on Church Hill Road late Wednesday evening. A juvenile driver was arrested and charged with four offenses.

Upon stopping the vehicle, Sgt Wood detected an odor of alcohol coming from the car. The driver and the four juvenile occupants in the vehicle were all under the age of 18. An investigation led to the arrest of the juvenile operator, who resides in Newtown. The investigation also led to the seizure of a large quantity of prescription pills and other controlled substances.

The juvenile was charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell a hallucinogenic substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police spokesman Lt Aaron Bahamonde called the apprehension "a great arrest by an alert patrol sergeant, who is also a Drug Recognition Expert."

The efforts, Lt Bahamonde continued, "removed over 1,000 Xanax pills and a large quantity of Molly crystal rock from a drug dealer's hands and off the streets in Newtown."

The investigation is continuing, according to the police department.

The vehicle being driven by the unnamed juvenile has been seized. Newtown police will work with the Danbury prosecutor's office to seek the forfeiture of the vehicle and cash.
