Business name: The Sign Shoppe

Address: 2 Sand Cut Road, Brookfield

Owners: Ryan Buchanan and Steven Kress

Business background: Newtown native Ryan Buchanan and his business partner Steven Kress opened The Sign Shoppe of Brookfield on April 1.

"Steven worked in the sign industry itself for nine years," Mr Buchanan said. "Then I joined him for the last two years. When our boss retired, we decided to give this a try for our own."

Knowing they did not want to buy into a franchise, they decided to put their energy toward starting their own company.

The two hit the ground running, eager to use their new facility, which was the first spot they looked at when searching for a location.

"We couldn't have gotten any luckier finding this specific space," said Mr Buchanan.

The spot comes with a main front desk area, a spacious and pristine workspace further back, as well as a separate garage section utilized for vehicle signage.

The Sign Shoppe has already begun many projects for a variety of clients and has received a lot of local support.

"We're lucky it got really busy when we first opened," Mr Kress said.

To celebrate the successful start of their business, the two owners hosted an open house on July 12, from noon to 2 pm, for the public to get a tour of the facility and learn more about the services they provide.

Business focus: "We're not your mom and pop sign shop," Mr Kress said. "We're a little edgier and emphasize design, consultation, and involvement with the customer and the community."

The Sign Shoppe of Brookfield offers nearly every style of sign designing one can think of to meet a wide range of client needs. They do graphic designs, signs, banners, vinyl, and vehicle wraps.

Mr Kress said, "We're a full-service sign shop [and do] indoor, outdoor, lit, nonlit, and vehicle design."

Most of the work is done in house, only partnering with network providers for electrical light boxes, and Mr Kress assures they are always the point of contact.

Customers will always be able to speak to either owner for their project, as they make great efforts to be there for clients every step of the way.

Whether someone has a vision for what they want designed or is starting from scratch and looking for guidance, Mr Kress says that they will work with each client and give their professional opinions to guide them through the process.

Important to know: Connecting with people and giving them a product they are satisfied with is The Sign Shoppe of Brookfield's main goal.

"It's about customer service and providing that consistency for people as best we can," Mr Buchanan said.

The business is community based and, as owners, they both enjoy the one-on-one talks they have interacting with their clients.

Mr Kress explained all are welcome to stop by and that "We want to be the village sign shop and do quality work."

Hours: Monday through Friday, from 9 to 5:30 pm; closed Saturday and Sunday.
