DUI Case

At about 1:23 am on July 24, police were called to the town-owned Eichler’s Cove Marina at 11 Old Bridge Road on Lake Zoar because a man there had become involved in an argument with a security guard at the marina, police said.

Police said they found motorist Daniel Ruggiero, 25, of Shelton parked in his vehicle near the guard’s quarters, after which they investigated and charged Ruggiero with driving under the influence and with possession of narcotics.

After arrest processing, police released Ruggiero on $400 bail for an August 11 court appearance.

Three Charges

State police report that on July 26, they stopped motorist Sean Lawrence, 25, of Waterbury for speeding on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11.

State police said they learned that the vehicle that Lawrence was driving had been stolen from Torrington. During arrest processing, state police said they found some crack cocaine in one of Lawrence’s socks.

State police charged Lawrence with speeding, first-degree larceny, and possession of narcotics.

Lawrence was released on $5,000 bail for a July 31 court appearance.

Berkshire Crash

Motorist Jackson Willis, 16, of Oxford, who was driving a 2005 Cadillac SRX SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Checkerberry Lane at about 4:28 pm on July 16, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2012 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by Maura Cochran, 42, of Lincoln University, Penn., police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Willis a written warning for following too closely.

Poverty Hollow Road

Motorist Alexa Cimino, 16, of Fairfield who was driving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler SUV southward on Poverty Hollow Road, south of its intersection Farm Meadow Road and Hopewell Road, at about 2:34 pm on July 26, drove off the road’s right shoulder and struck a utility pole, after which the Jeep landed in a ditch, police report.

There were no injuries. Cimino received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Gear Stolen

Police report they are investigating the theft of some yard maintenance gear from a residence on Bridle Path Trail, off Orchard Hill Road.

Police said that someone stole the two items from an open trailer, which was attached to vehicle that was parked in the driveway. Stolen were a Stihl-brand weed trimmer and an Echo-brand backpack-style air blower.

Police received the call reporting the theft late on the morning of July 24. The person who stole the items is believed to have left the area on foot.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203 426-5841.

Plate Reader

State police said that while using a marker plate reader at about 8:16 am on July 25 on westbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 10 interchange, the device alerted them of a traveling vehicle with an automotive insurance violation, so they stopped it to investigate.

State police said they charged motorist Shawn Cipriano, 37, of Waterbury with driving without automotive insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving while under suspension.

Cipriano was released from custody for an upcoming court appearance.

I-84 Crash

At about 6:22 pm on July 21, driver Joseph Gargano III, 41 of 1 Copper Creek Circle, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Express panel truck westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 10, was struck by driver Theodore McCullough, 37, of New Haven, who was operating a 2013 Chevrolet vehicle, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued an infraction to McCullough for failure to stay in the proper lane.

Honda Vs Acura

On westbound Interstate 84 at about 4:19 pm on July 24, motorist Travis Kullgren, 16, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Honda Accord auto, struck the rear end of a 2010 Acura MDX SUV driven by Susan Starr, 45, of New Fairfield, state police said.

There were no injuries. Kullgren received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to state police.

Hawleyville Ramp

At about 5:54 pm on July 23, motorist John Proudfoot, 58, of 40 Currituck Road, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry sedan on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp, stopped at the stop sign at the end of the off-ramp, after which the Toyota was struck from behind motorist Haisene Bynoe, 41, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Moving Violations

Police said they stopped motorist Angel Emicio Zunige-Castro, 25, of Danbury near 175 Sugar Street about 6:13 pm on July 24 for not keeping to the right side of the roadway.

After investigating, police charged him with failure to keep to the right and with driving with a suspended license.

Zunige-Castro was released from police custody on $250 nonsurety bail for an August 5 court arraignment.

Main Street Collision

At about 10:57 am on July 24, motorist Hugh Goldberg, 72, of Brookfield, who driving a 2005 Mazda Tribute SUV, backed into the front end of a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan driven by Maximilian Stevens, 21, of 139 Huntingtown Road which was parked on the southbound road shoulder near 43 Main Street, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Goldberg a written warning for unsafe backing.

 

Roadster Vs Wall

Motorist Rodrigo Montalvo, 17, of 92 Castle Hill Road was driving a 1992 Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster westward on Mt Nebo Road at about 3:30 pm on July 27, when he lost control of the two-seat convertible and went off the left road shoulder, striking a rock wall in front of a house at 53 Mt Nebo Road, according to police. 

The accident occurred just east of the intersection of Mt Nebo Road, Hattertown Road, and Purdy Station Road.

Montalvo received minor injuries due to the Mazda’s airbag deployment, police said.

Police report they issued Montalvo a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Chevy Vs Ford

At about 2:23 pm on July 28, southbound motorist Dana Leonard, 37, of 8 Overlook Drive, who was driving a 2013 Ford Escape SUV, stopped on South Main Street and was waiting to make a left turn onto Simm Lane, when the Ford was struck from behind by southbound motorist Johnny Hernandez, 28, of Walden, N.Y., who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Express van, police report.

There were no injuries. Hernandez received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Botsford Crash

At about 3:35 pm on July 28, motorist Luis Nugra-Guzman, 36, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Nissan Maxima sedan northward on South Main Street, turned to the right and proceeded northeastward on Swamp Road, police said.

Motorist Melissa Arconti, 26, of Danbury, who was driving a 2014 Ford Focus sedan, had been driving  behind the Nissan and also made the right turn onto Swamp Road, police said.

The Nissan then stopped suddenly and backed up into the front end of the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Nugra-Guzman an infraction for unsafe backing and for driving without a license.

Lakeview Terrace

Motorist Clifford Kruger, 53, of 32 Jo-Mar Drive was driving a 1991 Mercury Sable sedan eastward on Lakeview Terrace at about 10:53 am on July 23, when the Mercury went to the right side of the road, struck some curbing, traveled off the right road shoulder, struck a road reflector post and then landed in a ditch. Police said Kruger told them that his brakes had failed.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Kruger for making a restricted turn.

South Main Collision

Police report that motorist Sarah Riccio, 18, of 21 Shepard Hill Road was driving a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street at about 7:54 am on July 27.

At that time, motorist Anthony Romano, 64, of Trumbull was driving a 1989 Cadillac Brougham sedan southward on South Main Street, police said.

The Ford then attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Country Club Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

There were no injuries. Riccio received a written warning for making a restricted turn, according to police.
