Aquarion Water Company of Bridgeport is seeking town approval to build a water pumping station at a South Main Street site near the Monroe town line.

The public utility firm’s request for a special permit to build the facility is scheduled for a Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) public hearing at 7:30 pm on Thursday, August 6, at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street.

Aquarion proposes building the pumping station on a one-half acre lot that it owns at 350 South Main Street. The site is on the west side of South Main Street, lying between South Main Street’s intersections with Swamp Road and Bears Hill Road.

The pumping station would be used to transfer water from the water supply system in Monroe to the water supply system in Newtown, as needed, according to the special permit application.

The firm was scheduled to formally notify 15 property owners who have holdings within 500 feet of the site about the August 6 P&Z public hearing.

Aquarion recently gained Borough Zoning Commission approval to build a water pumping station at 12 Church Hill Road, near the site of the planned Newtown Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Company firehouse. That pumping station would be used to regulate water pressure in the town center.
