10th Annual Newtown Road Race & Kids Run, September 5

The  10th Annual Newtown Road Race  5K and Newtown Prevention Council Kids Run to benefit Newtown Youth & Family Services will be held on Saturday, September 5. The courses will depart from and return to Dickinson Park, 50 Elm Drive.

NYFS Executive Director Candice Bohr said she is very excited to be celebrating “ten years of community members running, walking and pushing strollers to help us achieve our mission and provide support services in greater Newtown.”

The 5K will begin at 8 am. The race features individual awards to the top female and male runners in each of the eight age brackets.

Cost to participate in the 5K is $25 for those who register in advance, and $30 the morning of the race. The Kids Fun Fun is $5 per person, or $10 per family.

During the race, sections of Sugar Street will be closed, from approximately 7-10 am.

To register for this year’s race visit newtownroadrace.com or pick up a registration form at NYA Sports & Fitness Center, 4 Primrose Street; Parks & Recreation, in the lower level of Town Hall South, 3 Main Street; or NYFS, at 15 Berkshire Road.

Race  packet pick-up will take place on Friday, September 4, from 9 am to 6 pm, at New Balance in Bethel. Race day Registration will begin at 7:30 am.

The course is a certified 5K USATF course rolling through a scenic course in Newtown.

T-shirts will be given to the first 800 runners and the first 150 Kids Race participants.

On race day, participants should park in the lot off Brushy Hill Road, near the basketball courts. Activity will be centered around the park pavilion, and the start-finish line will be on Elm Drive at the park’s main entrance.
