Gregory Richard Layda

Gregory Richard Layda, 45, of Newtown, husband of Mary Dawn Layda, died Thursday morning, August 15, at Danbury Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Greg was born August 5, 1968, in Danbury to Patricia and Richard Layda of Newtown.

He was raised in Newtown, and graduated from Newtown High School. He also attended the University of Montana at Missoula for two years.

He was a partner in Layda Carpentry for the past 15 years – a family business he took great pride in developing and working in. He was a meticulous worker and a skilled craftsman with high standards for himself and others.

A love of travel took him to Europe, the Middle East, Indian Nepal, China, Indonesia, most often backpacking or off the beaten track.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by the shining stars of his life, sons Mason and Miles.

Also surviving are his brother Christopher (Lisa) Layda and his children Molly, Camden, and Zarek. Also, in-laws Elizabeth and Richard MacLachlan, and aunts and uncles Tom and Marianne Polchowski, Kathy Seaman, Jack and Betty Shippe, William and Cheryl Layda, John and Jeannne Layda, and Cheryl Smith.

He was predeceased by his grandparents John and Doris Layda, Anani and Mary Polchowski. He epitomized loyalty and integrity, and his word was his bond. He was a genuine man. Take him as he is. Much loved. His death has left his survivors inconsolable.

His family expresses its eternal thanks to the ER staff of Danbury Hospital for its heroic efforts to save their beloved Greg.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 pm on Sunday, August 18, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, August 19, at the Honan Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Village Cemetery, Newtown.
