The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have DeAnn L. Prosia "draw and paint" watercolors on Wednesday, August 23, at 1:30 pm.

This demonstration will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. The public is invited, free of charge.

Originally from Chicago, DeAnn Prosia, who works as a printmaker and watercolorist, has lived in Connecticut for 20 years, the last eight in Newtown. During a three-year stay in Germany she took a break from making intricate black and white etchings and dove, unexpectedly, into the world of watercolor. During that time she perfected her own style and had a solo show in Mainz, Germany, where she showcased her watercolors featuring the city she lived in.

Along with being published in Watercolor Magazine and Splash 13 - Alternative Approaches, Ms Prosia has won many awards for her work, including the American Women Artists Award of Recognition for Best Composition and Award of Excellence.

Her work is in the collections New York Public Library and New-York Historical Society Museum & Library, among many others.

For her SCAN presentation, Ms Prosia will demonstrate the techniques she uses with her watercolors and tell the of journey of how she came to use drawing in her watercolors.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN demonstrations, but additional information is available by calling 203-426-6654 or visiting scanart.org.

DeAnn Prosia has crafted an artform that combines the intricate lines of etching with the colors of watercolor. The artist, whose "Wickford Shipyard" is shown here, will be the guest artist for the next SCAN meeting.
