Black Swan defeated REACH 21-18 in the Newtown Women's Softball League championship game, at Treadwell Park, on August 19. The Swans started strongly, getting through their batting order in the first inning to put up seven runs. REACH responded with offense of its own, but the Swans maintained a seemingly comfortable lead throughout the game.

In the sixth inning, REACH had a seven-spot of its own, closing to within three runs. Hoping for a comeback, REACH held Black Swan scoreless in the seventh, but the Swans held REACH without a hit in the final frame to close out the win.

Joey Barry had a triple and drove in five runs, Melissa Shepard tripled and batted in four, and Christine Cooney hit a home run and had three driven in.

Melissa Fracker pitched a strong game and made a crucial third out to end a long string of REACH hits, Kayla Mesko caught a ball in deep left field, Lisa Coates caught a hard drive to right field, and Rose Jackman played a good short center field through out the game.

Helping the REACH offense were Stacey Gordon and Lindsey Carley, each going 4-for-4, and Rebecca Narel, Courtney Kowcheris, Ali Cordova, and Lynn Bell, all of whom provided key hits and runs batted in. The REACH defense was led by Gordon, Carley, Cordova, and Christina Caron.
