Raveis Plans Fundraisers For Breast Cancer Research

SHELTON — William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services has recently announced the dates for its second annual series of fundraisers for breast cancer. Last year the nonprofit William Raveis Breast Cancer Research Fund, in its pioneer year for the fundraisers, successfully raised more than $200,000 for the cause.

Five events have been planned throughout the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The Connecticut events will be held on September 8 at the Burr Homestead in Fairfield; September 13 at the Wampanoag Country Club in West Hartford; and September 29 at The Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich with the times slated from 6 to 9 pm.

The October 14event is scheduled from 7 to 10 pm at Water’s Edge Spa and Resort in Westbrook. Bill Evans, the WABC-TV Eyewitness News meteorologist, will be the special guest and auctioneer at the Hyatt event. Kellie Quinn of Starr 99 will be joining special guest, Rael Andrews of General Hospital and later this fall, Law & Order, as the evening’s auctioneer at the Burr Homestead.

The four Connecticut events will again share the theme, “Wines and Foods of the World” which will include wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and an array of activities varying from silent and live auctions to chances to win grand packages. Samplings of auction items include tickets to Wimbledon 2006; a week in an Italian villa in Tuscany; Persian carpets; and a guitar, owned and signed by Billy Joel. Some of the grand packages include: a stay at a five-star hotel in Paris including limo service and airfare; a handcrafted mahogany wine cabinet valued at $7,000; and an all-inclusive one week vacation to Cozumel with airfare. Tickets to win one of the grand packages are $10 each and will be sold in advance and at the auction.

Monies raised will be distributed to the Breast Cancer Alliance (Greenwich), Dana-Farber Women’s Cancer’s Program (Boston), and the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Care Center in Farmington.

The fundraisers are the brainchild of Carolyn Deal, president of William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services, who in 1997, found she had breast cancer. Today, Ms Deal celebrates life as a breast cancer survivor and the entire William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services Company is proud to take part in the fight against this disease by devoting their time and energy to raising funds for this cause.

More women in the United States are living with breast cancer than any other cancer, including skin cancer. The highest incidence of breast cancer occurs in the state of Connecticut. It is very fitting that a company like William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services, with offices in both states, contributes its resources to help find a cure.
