Classic Car Show Draws ‘Outpouring’ Of Community Support

By Eliza Hallabeck

Classic Nights Car Club President Fred Loulis and his wife Peggy Loulis, the customer service coordinator at Lockwood Lodge, said this year’s Annual Antique & Classic Car Show and Sock Hop was a success.

Ms Loulis said the event raised $500 for the Resident Council at Masonicare at Newtown/Lockwood Lodge, 139 Toddy Hill Road.

The event was free and open to the public. Each year the parking lot of Masonicare at Newtown/Lockwood Lodge is taken over by a display of classic cars. This year the event’s sock hop was also overseen by a DJ, and Greyhound Rescue & Rehabilitation members and dogs visited.

Visitors were asked to vote on their favorite classic car, and the top three vote-getting car owners received trophies. A 1964 Corvette owned by Brian Mauriello of Newtown took first place, a 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II owned by Victor Williams of Bethel took second, and a 1969 Camaro owned by Norbert Mitchell of Brookfield came in third.

“It went great,” said Mr Loulis after the event. “It went better than we expected.”

This year marked the eighth year for the annual event, and Mr Loulis said there were more cars and more people than in previous years.

“It went awesome,” said Ms Loulis, noting a marked “outpouring of community.”

The Resident Council at Masonicare at Newtown/Lockwood Lodge will decide what to do with the $500. Ms Loulis said the council uses its funds to provide amenities like park benches and more for the facility, but it has also donated money to the community in the past. A few weeks ago, Ms Loulis said, the Resident Council donated $1,600 to the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.

Other community events hosted by the Classic Nights Car Club, Mr Loulis said, include its Friday night cruise events at Village Square, 401 Monroe Turnpike. More information about the Classic Nights Car Club is available at www.ClassicNights.com.
