Lexus vs Cadillac
State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, almost one mile west of Exit 9, at about 4:20 pm on August 19.
The accident involved motorist Mourad Fahmi, 58, of East Lyme, who was driving 2007 Lexus RX-350 SUV, and motorist Jonathan Levitan, 43, of Woodbury, who
was driving a 2008 Cadillac STS sedan, state police said.
There were no injuries. Fahmi received a written warning for making an unsafe lane change, state police said.
South Main Crash
Motorist E. Pages, 18, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2002 Kia Rio sedan northward near 75 South Main Street about 5:20 pm on August 19, struck the rear end of a northbound 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV driven by Peter Stockwell, 41, of 24 Charter Ridge, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Pages an infraction for following too closely and for failure to have automotive registration and/or automotive insurance documents.
Buick vs Honda
A two-vehicle accident occurred near 130 Mt Pleasant Road in Hawleyville at about 9:30 pm on Au-gust 19.
Motorist Aaron Rossetti, 18, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2013 Buick Verano sedan, was traveling alongside motorist Thomas Deleo, 23, of 17 Apple Blossom Lane, who was driving a 2004 Honda Accord sedan, police said.
The Buick then pulled into the travel lane occupied by the Honda, striking the Honda, police said.
There were no injuries. Rossetti received a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane, police said.
Dog On Highway
State police report that motorist Clifford Bruno, 40, of Patterson, N.Y., was driving a 2012 Toyota FJC SUV on Interstate 84, about 2,000 feet west of Exit 9, at about 10 pm on August 19 in dark conditions when a dog crossed the highway.
State police said Bruno did not see the dog and the Toyota struck the animal, resulting in its death.
State police said that the dog had been under the care of a local veterinary hospital, but had gotten loose and wandered onto the highway.
The dog’s owner was called to the scene to claim the animal’s body, state police said. No enforcement action was taken.
Fallen Wood
At about 6 pm on August 20, motorist Timothy Raymond, 44, of Meriden was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata sedan eastward on Interstate 84, about 4,000 feet west of Exit 9, when a 2008 Ford Econoline van driven by Heliel Fofano, 49, of Framingham, Mass., dropped a piece a wood which it was carrying atop its roof, state police said.
The wood fell onto the highway and the Hyundai struck the wood, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Fofano for driving with an unsecured load.
Cellphone Found
Police report that on August 21, a person found an Apple-brand iPhone 5-C cellphone alongside Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Whippoorwill Hill Road. The person turned over the cellphone to police for safekeeping.
The phone’s owner may contact Officer Timothy Schoen at the police station at 3 Main Street, tele-phone 203-426-5841, to claim it.
DUI Incident
Police said they received a report that a motor vehicle accident had occurred on High Bridge Road, near Botsford Hill Road, about 2 am on August 21, so they went there to investigate.
After arriving, police learned that the motorist involved in that accident had left the scene.
Police said they learned the address of the motorist in question and went to his residence to investi-gate.
Police report they charged Jacob Dauz, 23, of 24 Paugussett Road with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and making a restricted turn.
After processing, police released Dauz on $400 bail for a September 4 court appearance.
Eight Charges
Police report that at about 6:10 pm on August 22, they were using radar-based speed-detection equipment from a stationary position near 14 Riverside Road, when they spotted motorist Tyler Crisci, 26, of Danbury driving 50 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police said they used their dog in a search of the vehicle.
Police said they charged Crisci with traveling unreasonably fast, failure to have automotive insur-ance, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a defective windshield, driving with a very darkly tinted windshield without a permit to do so, possession of narcotics, possession of prescription narcotics not in their original container, and possession of a controlled substance.
Police said they released Crisci on $2,000 bail for a September 5 court appearance.
Warrant Arrest
Newtown police said that another law enforcement agency transported Joseph Barbera, 22, of Cheshire to the police station on the night of August 22, after learning that Newtown police held a warrant for his arrest.
Police said they charged Barbera with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree bur-glary, and sixth-degree larceny.
The charges stem from police’s investigation into Barbera’s alleged theft of scrap copper from a local property in May, according to police.
Barbera was released on $1,000 nonsurety bail for a September 5 court appearance.
Interstate Collision
State police report that a tractor-trailer truck traveling on westbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 off-ramp, dropped a large amount of rubber debris from a failed tire at about 11:30 am on August 23.
Motorists who had been traveling behind the truck veered and braked to avoid collisions, state police said.
One motorist, Kristen Kulka, 25, of Scarsdale, N.Y., who was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, veered to the left to avoid a collision, but then struck a section of flex-beam metal guardrailing, state police said.
Kulka was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.
Sandy Hook Accident
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Pole Bridge about 11:43 am on August 23.
Motorist Julia Schoeni, 17, of 8 Far Horizon Drive, who was driving a 2006 Volvo S-60 sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, was attempting to make a left turn onto Pole Bridge Road and the Volvo was then struck by an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Venture van driven by Edward Vincent, Jr, 20, of Wallingford, who was attempting to pass the Volvo on the right, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Vincent a written warning for a passing violation.
Multiple Charges From Exit 11 Lot
Police report that on the night of August 23, they spotted two people sitting in a vehicle parked in the commuter parking lot on Wasserman Way and as they approached the vehicle they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from it.
Police said they used their dog to search the vehicle.
Police said they charged passenger Gabrielle Sturgess, 23, of Danbury with two counts of possession of narcotics and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said the search had turned up a purse containing 212 tablets of methamphetamine/MDMA. Sturgess was released on $2,000 bail for a September 5 court appearance, police said.
Also, police said they issued the driver, Stephen Karloczuk, 32, of Southbury, an infraction for posses-sion of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Arrested On Warrant
Newtown police said they went to the New Haven police station on the morning of August 24, after learning that New Haven police were holding Chevol Smith, 45, of Bridgeport, for whom Newtown po-lice had a warrant.
Newtown police said they charged Smith with third-degree forgery and with criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny.
Police said the arrest resulted from their investigation into a September 19, 2013, complaint.
After arrest processing, Smith was released on $1,000 bail for a September 9 court appearance.
Thefts From Vehicles
Overnight on August 24-25, someone illegally entered unlocked vehicles that were parked in the Maltbie Road area and stole various items from within the vehicles, police report.
Police did not state the number of vehicles involved or describe the items stolen.
Maltbie Road is a residential street that extends from Huntingtown Road, near the Monroe town line.
Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crimes to contact Officer Matthew Wood at the police station.
