NCAC To Present Screenings Of 'The African Queen'

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission will present The African Queen (1951) on Thursday, September 1, at 1 and 7 pm, at Edmond Town Hall Theatre, 45 Main Street.The African Queen has been my favorite movie forever, and it has the finest actors," said Mr Lerman. "We support the Sunday Cinema Series because this is the rare chance to see older movies on a big screen."The African Queen, adapted from a novel by C.S. Forester, starring Humphrey Bogart in his Oscar-winning portrayal of Charlie Allnut, and Katharine Hepburn as Rose Sayer, who are two characters as polar opposite as they come, yet with great chemistry. Charlie is a lackadaisical riverboat captain of the African Queen, shipping supplies to East African villages just after the outbreak of WWI, and Rose is the prim sister of a British missionary, Reverend Samuel Sayer, played by Robert Morley.Rear Window on September 29; Dracula (1931) and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) double-feature on October 30; The Last Waltz on November 17; and White Christmas on December 18.newtownartscommission.org/sunday-cinema-series and facebook.com/sundaycinemaseries.

Two September 1 screenings of The African Queen, sponsored by local movie fans Ken and Laura Lerman, will serve as the opening events for this year's Newtown Arts Festival. The public is invited to enjoy the shows on the movie screen at Edmond Town Hall Theatre, Thursday afternoon and evening.
