Job Bank Cites

Brett Eastman

By Tanjua Damon

Newtown High School sophomore Brett Eastman is not old enough to hold a “real” job, but he wanted to earn some money. So he relied on the Newtown Youth Services Job Bank to help him out.

Job Bank Coordinator Laura Amodeo awarded Brett the August Job Bank Member of the Month because of his dedication and an evaluation from Marsha Daria.

Brett, a humble young man, did yard work for Mrs Daria. He does not think he did anything special, just his job.

“I’m a pretty hard worker,” Brett said. “Dedicated.”

Besides doing odd jobs, Brett likes to dirt bike, snowboard, skate board, and mountain bike. He plays football at the high school and is a member of the track team. His favorite subject in school is math.

“It’s an easy way to make money when you are under 16,” he said. “The pay-off in the end? A job well done. You also meet a couple people along the way that might help you later.”

When Mrs Daria evaluated Brett’s work, she said he was courteous and arrived on time. She also described the Job Bank as a “top notch accommodation.”

“Brett provided excellent service,” she said. “He was very thorough and conscientious with his work. I highly recommend him.”

The Job Bank is for students aged 13 to 17 who would like to earn some money doing various jobs offered by individuals and businesses throughout Newtown. For more information about the Job Bank call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335.
