Many Made The Road Race Successful

To the Editor:

On behalf of the race organizers, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the eighth annual Newtown Road Race 5K.  We had the largest-ever field of 687 registered runners in this year’s 5K and more than 130 smiling children participate in the kids fun run.  This race would not be possible without the financial support of our sponsors and our incredibly hard working volunteers.  All proceeds of the race benefit Newtown Youth and Family Services.

Several town departments help us pull this race off every year and we would like to extend special thanks to the Newtown Police Department, Highway Department, Volunteer Ambulance, and Parks & Recreation for their cooperation.  Once again, thanks to The Newtown Bee for its usual great coverage of the race.

The Newtown Road Race marks the second of our town’s three-race grand prix series (first is the Rooster) so set your training schedule for the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.  The male and female racers with the lowest combined times for all three races will win a championship trophy for 2013.
