Robert Edward "Bob" Daley, 84, of Oxford and formerly of Newtown, died August 25 at his home, surrounded by loving family and caregivers. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, loyal friend, and veteran. He was born July 18, 1933, in Providence, R.I., to parents Anna and Thomas Daley.

Mr Daley was the youngest of three children, with a sister Anne Mae and brother Donald. As a young child, he was given the nickname "Red." These were his initials and the color of his hair. He often described himself as a mischievous and adventurous child and was the captain of his high school football team.

After high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps immediately before the formation of the US Air Force. After basic training, he was deployed to the Korean Peninsula during the Korean War and was attached to the 1st Marine Infantry Division to serve as a forward observer and radio operator.

He married his high school girlfriend, Trudy, and had six children, Robin, Jeff, Thomas, Kristin, Kimberly, and Lisa. When he was 42 years old he remarried to Margaret "Peg" and welcomed her four sons -- Bill, Chip, Scott and Todd -- into his family. He and Peg then decided to add one, a daughter, Megan.

Mr Daley and his family were very active throughout his entire life, spending time skiing, waterskiing, ski instructing, traveling in their RV, golfing, and doing endless house projects (a.k.a. Honey-Do lists).

Over the course of his 42-year marriage with Peg, they lived on both coasts of the country, in Connecticut, California, and New York. After retiring from IBM after 34 years, he and Peg spent their winters ski instructing at Windham and Butternut Mountains. They spent their summers waterskiing on Lake Zoar and traveling the country in their RV seeing family and friends along the way.

Visitation with family will be on Saturday, September 16, at Valley Presbyterian Church, 21 West Whisconier Road, Brookfield, from 10 to 11 am.

A service will follow at the church at 11 am.

Donations in his memory can be made to LOF Adaptive Skiers, 90 Housatonic Drive, Sandy Hook CT 06482 and to Windham Adaptive Sports Foundation, 100 Silverman Way, Windham NY 12496.
