Newtown Youth & Family Services (NYFS) will host its 2016 Annual Breakfast on Tuesday, September 27, from 7:30 to 9:30, at Rock Ridge Country Club.

NYFS Executive Director Candice Bohr is looking forward, she said, "to having our donors, honorees, and community members at this event. We have a lot of great information to share as we recap and highlight our accomplishments in 2015-2016."

NYFS will recognize the accomplishments of community members, local businesses, and staff for their dedication to the community and to NYFS.

"The successes and accomplishments attained throughout the years could not have been done without the support and commitment of the community," said Ms Bohr. "The support we have received has assisted the organization in helping the community and allowing NYFS to offer quality programs throughout greater Newtown area."

The breakfast event will include the presentation of four special awards. The H.D. Bassett Award will be presented to Webster Bank, The Gail Smith Award will be given to Kyle Lyddy, The Outstanding Youth Award will be presented to Emily Krasnickas, and The Spirit of Community Award will be presented to The Newtown Pride.

In addition, NYFS will welcome Bobby Valentine as the 2016 Annual Breakfast Guest Speaker.

Mr Valentine is a Connecticut native, growing up in Stamford. One of the best athletes from Connecticut of the 20th Century, as voted by Sports Illustrated, Mr Valentine planned on pursuing a college football career at USC, but was selected fifth in the first round of the 1968 amateur baseball draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mr Valentine made his MLB debut September 2, 1969, versus the New York Mets, a club he would go on to manage. All told, Valentine spent ten seasons in the major leagues, playing for the Dodgers, San Diego Padres, California Angels, Mets, and Seattle Mariners.

Mr Valentine made his major league managerial debut in 1985 with the Texas Rangers, earning UPI American League Manager of the Year honors in 1986 and went onto become the winningest manager in Rangers history.

Mr Valentine took over the Mets in 1996 and led the squad to back-to-back postseasons, including a 2000 World Series appearance. Including a season at the helm of the Boston Red Sox in 2012, Valentine has 1,186 major league managerial victories under his belt.

NYFS is a licensed nonprofit youth service bureau and mental health agency that is committed to continuously providing high quality human health services for the well-being of the community. Its offices are at 13 Berkshire Road, with additional workshop and program space at 15 Berkshire Road.
