Douglas Moe To Play At Opening Of Guild Art Exhibition

RIDGEFIELD — The 26th Annual Ridgefield Guild of Artists’ Juried Art Exhibition will open with a celebration on Sunday, October 5, from 2 to 5 pm. Adding to the festivity of the opening reception will be a live performance by Douglas Moe, who will be playing classical music on his guitar.

The exhibition will remain on view until November 5.

Dr Moe, as he is known to many, was the psychologist for the Ridgefield Public School System for over 20 years, and has been playing guitar longer than that. He studied classical guitar for many years under Mary Brett, a student of the Segovia school. Dr Moe continues to teach “Introduction to Philosophy” at Ridgefield High School.

The Juried Exhibition draws hundreds of entries from the New England region. Past jurors have included (former) New York Times regional art critic William Zimmer; Katonah Museum of Art director Susan Edwards; and internationally known artist Paul Cadmus. This year’s juror is Lisa P. Streitfeld, who is a weekly art critic for The Stamford Advocate, Greenwich Time and other regional papers.

The show is one of the few juried art shows that continues to jury in person (most competitions use slide submissions). For RGA Juried Show exhibitors, their work is more realistically evaluated because what you see is what you’ll get.

The RGA Annual Juried Exhibition awards cash prizes to “Award of Excellence” winners, one Comstock Drawing Group Award and one Best in Show. All award winners are invited to participate in the annual “Winners Circle” group show at the guild the following spring.

Refreshments for the opening reception will be provided by Parmadeli.

The guild’s headquarters is on Halpin Lane: follow Main Street/Route 35 to Prospect Street, which will be on the left; turn right onto Prospect Ridge and then take the first left onto Halpin Lane. The guild is at the bottom of Halpin Lane.

Admission is free. Regular gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, 1-5 pm. For further information call 203-438-8863 or visit www.rgoa.org.
