Professional and amateur artists across the state are invited to enter the 2016 Newtown Arts Festival Artwork Competition to create what will be the symbol of next year’s festival. The competition is being presented by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.

The winning artwork will be featured on festival T-shirts, posters, and all advertising materials. The winning artist will receive $750, to be paid after December 1, 2015; a press release about the selected artwork and artist; and will be featured on the Newtown Arts Festival website.

Entries should reflect the Newtown Arts festival, which features poetry, dance workshops, literary booths, music, theater and film, among other cultural disciplines.

Jurors will consider how the design will look across all forms of publicity. One important consideration is how well a design will reproduce with the printing process and inks used for the festival’s T-shirts. The festival’s T-shirts are printed using environmentally sound water-based inks, which require a larger screen mesh than plastic-based inks. Artists should note that this process makes reproducing precise or very fine line alignments on cotton difficult.

A full description of the competition’s terms and design guidelines is available at newtownartsfestival.com.

Artwork submission(s) must be delivered or mailed/shipped to Newtown Cultural Arts Commission c/o Koenig Frameworks, 97 South Main Street, Newtown CT 06470, between October 1 and October 30, 2015. Regular business hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.

Late entries will not be accepted.
