Celebrating Newtown’s Historic Families

A tercentennial committee is working to help Newtown residents learn about the families that developed the character and history of the town.

This committee plans to showcase memorabilia and information about as many families with early Newtown connections as possible. Families that have been in town more than 200 years will be showcased as founding families; families here more than 100 years will be designated historic families, and families that have been here at least 75 years will be notable families.

Former and present Newtown families are invited to present family information and interesting family collections for a display that is in the process of being arranged.

The coordinators include Marg Studley, Coleen Honan, Joan Glover Crick, Sally O’Neil, and Mae Schmidle. The committee also includes Eric and Cyndy DaSilva and Barbara Bloom.

Anyone who has suggestions about families that should be included may call Sally O’Neil at 426-2607 or write to the Tercentennial Committee, Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown 06470.
