‘Shanghai Memoirs’ Subject To Share Movie, Life Story

Life in China during World War II has been captured in My Shanghai Memoirs, to be shown at Congregation Adath Israel on Sunday, October 2, at 3 pm.

The program will begin with a screening of Bert Reiner’s 30-minute documentary, to be followed by a talk by Mr Reiner, and then questions from the audience.

Mr Reiner’s family had a successful department store in Munich, Germany, during World War II. His  father had the foresight to find an escape when the Nazis invaded. That escape took them to Shanghai where he spent his childhood in a ghetto.

Mr Reiner lived through the Japanese invasion, and still later the Communist invasion. He and his family immigrated to the US, where he went to school and later made a career as a toy engineer for Coleco, Ideal and A.C. Gilbert.

For the past 20 years Mr Reiner has worked as a consultant to toy and juvenile product industries.

Mr Reiner and his wife Sandy have three children and eight grandchildren living in Connecticut. He and his wife spend half the year living in Oxford and the other half in Las Vegas.

Baked goods and lemonade will be served.

A $5 donation is requested. Reservations are not needed.

The synagogue is at 115 Huntingtown Road in Newtown. For more information call 203-426-5188.
